The rise and fall of bicycles in China has witnessed the development of China’s national light industry. Over the past few decades, there have been many new changes in the bicycle industry. The emergence of new business models and concepts such as shared bicycles and Guochao has given Chinese bicycle brands an opportunity to rise. After a long period of downturn, the Chinese bicycle industry has returned to the growth track.

From January to June 2021, the operating income of bicycle manufacturing enterprises above designated size in the country was 104.46 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of more than 40%, and the total profit increased by more than 40% year-on-year, reaching more than 4 billion yuan.

Affected by the epidemic, compared with public transportation, foreign people prefer safe, environmentally friendly and lightweight bicycles.

In this context, the export of bicycles reached a new high on the basis of continuing last year’s boom. According to data disclosed on the official website of the China Bicycle Association, in the first half of this year, my country exported 35.536 million bicycles, a year-on-year increase of 51.5%.

Under the epidemic, the overall sales of the bicycle industry continued to rise.

According to the 21st Century Business Herald, in May last year, orders for a bicycle brand on AliExpress doubled from the previous month. “Workers work overtime until 12 o’clock every day, and orders are still queued for a month later.” The person in charge of its operations said in an interview that the company has also launched emergency recruitment and plans to double the size of the factory and the size of the workers.

Going to sea has become the main battlefield for domestic bicycles to become popular.

Statistics show that compared to the same period in 2019, bicycle sales in Spain have soared by 22 times in May 2020. Although Italy and the United Kingdom are not as exaggerated as Spain, they have also achieved a growth of about 4 times.

As a major bicycle exporter, nearly 70% of the world’s bicycles are produced in China. According to the 2019 data of the China Bicycle Association, the cumulative export of bicycles, electric bicycles and electric bicycles in China has exceeded 1 billion.

The outbreak of the epidemic has not only aroused people’s attention to health, but also affected people’s travel methods. Especially in European and American countries where bicycle riding is already popular, after giving up public transportation, bicycles that are cheap, convenient, and can also exercise are naturally the first choice.

Not only that, the generous subsidies from governments of various countries have also promoted the hot sales of this round of bicycles.

In France, business owners are supported by government funds, and employees who commute by bicycle are given a transportation subsidy of 400 euros per person; in Italy, the government provides bicycle consumers with a high subsidy of 60% of the price of the bicycle, with a maximum subsidy of 500 euros; In the UK, the government has announced that it will allocate £2 billion to provide cycling and walking spaces.

At the same time, due to the impact of the epidemic, foreign factories have transferred a large number of orders to China because they cannot be placed normally. Due to the orderly progress of epidemic prevention work in China, most factories have resumed work and production at this time.
