Panama City, Fla. (WMBB)-As a kid, cycling was a right of way, but learning to balance is not the only element you need to learn.
This is why the chief of the Panama City Police, John Constaintino (John Constaintino) organized the first “bicycle rodeo” ever.
Constantino said: “This special course gives them at least a preliminary understanding of what they are looking for. From the two ways and how to treat the signs they see on the street, it is to ensure their safety. ”
This activity taught children the importance of attention and safety when riding bicycles. Some things include stopping to look in both directions, putting on a helmet and keeping an eye out for passing cars.
“So we are teaching the children how to ride on the right side of the road and how to ride the bicycle correctly,” Constantino said.
PCPD sets up a course for each child to complete the different tasks they need to perform, and applies it later when riding alone.
Khachtenko said: “When you see a stop sign, you must stop. Whenever you see a yield sign, you must slow down and pay attention to other vehicles.”
Volunteers make sure that each child’s bicycle is suitable for them, and ensure the safety of riding by checking for breaks, inflating tires and adjusting seats.
PCPD also drew out bicycles, helmets and other riding equipment donated by Walmart to children who successfully completed the course.
This is the first time the Panama City Police have held this event, and they have planned to do so again next year.
