Method 3: Adjust the height of the gooseneck stem

Gooseneck stems were very common before threadless headsets and threadless stems came into the market.
We can still see them on various road cars and vintage bicycles.
This method involves inserting the gooseneck stem into the fork tube and securing it with a sliding wedge that presses against the inside of the fork.
Adjusting their height is a little different than the previous stem, but arguably a lot easier.

【step 1】
First loosen the bolts at the top of the stem.
Most use hex socket head cap screws, but some will use hex socket head cap screws.

【Step 2】
Once released, the stem can be adjusted freely.
If the stem has not been adjusted for a long time,
it may be necessary to lightly tap the bolt with a hammer to loosen the wedge.
If the screw is slightly higher than the stem, you can tap the screw directly.
If the screw is flush with the stem, you can lightly tap the bolt with a hex wrench.

【Step 3】
Now you can adjust the stem to the appropriate height according to your actual needs.
But be sure to check for minimum and maximum insertion markings on the stem and obey them.
It's a good idea to lubricate gooseneck stems regularly, as they often seize if they get too dry.

【Step 4】
After setting the stem to the desired height and aligning it with the front wheel, re-tighten the stem set screw.
Once adjusted, retighten the bolts to secure the stem.

Well, it's time to test the bike's new handling on the road to see if you like it.
Adjusting the stem to the perfect height can take some patience, but once it's in place,
it can better help you realize the true potential of your ride.
