A public transport operator in Barcelona, Spain, and the Barcelona Transport Company have started using electricity recovered from subway trains to charge electric bicycles.
Not long ago, the scheme has been piloted at Ciutadella-Vila Olímpica station of the Barcelona Metro, with nine modular charging cabinets installed near the entrance.
These battery lockers offer a way to use the energy generated when the train brakes to recharge, though the maturity of the technology and whether it will actually be able to reliably recover power remains to be seen.
Currently, students at Pompeii Fabra University near the station are testing the service for free. The general public can also enter at a 50% discount.
This move stems from an entrepreneurial challenge – it has to be said that it is truly a green travel Buff stack. This service will help those who use public transportation in combination with eBike. Subway trains have shorter departure intervals and need to stop frequently. If this part of energy can be truly recycled, it will save a considerable amount of energy consumption.
