Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (WBTW) — NAACP asked the court to amend the judgment of the organization’s lawsuit against the city of Myrtle Beach to prevent the city from stopping the use of bicycle rings in future events.
The request was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Florence, South Carolina on December 22. It was made after a jury made a decision earlier this month, which found race in the city’s “Black Bike Week” program. Motivation, but the city will take the same action. If you don’t consider race.
The new requirement believes that racial motives may affect future event operation plans, and that the same plan will continue to be used.
The ban will prohibit the city from “continuing to engage in challenging forms of discriminatory behavior” and “prevent discriminatory behavior from recurring in the future.”
NAACP has the right to request an injunction because the jury found racial motives in the city’s “Black Bike Week” program upon request.
The local branch of NAACP filed an original racial discrimination lawsuit, accusing the city and the police of discriminating against African-American tourists.
The organization claimed that “Black Bike Week” was opposed and boycotted, and was treated differently from Halley Week, which is an annual event in the same area.
The lawsuit stated: “The city has not implemented a formal transportation plan for Harley Week, and basically white participants can travel in the Myrtle Beach area like on any other day of the year.”
For example, the city has not implemented a formal transportation plan for Halley Week. However, during the “Black Bicycle Week”, Ocean Avenue is usually reduced to a one-way single-lane. All motorists entering Ocean Drive are forced to enter the 23-mile loop with only one exit.
