Business leaders have many responsibilities to deal with, which often leads to non-stop work and sleepless nights. Whether it is short-term or long-term, a culture of overwork will naturally drive entrepreneurs to exhaustion.
Fortunately, business leaders can make some simple and powerful changes in their daily lives, allowing them to live healthier and more successful lives. Here, 10 members of the Young Entrepreneur Committee shared their best suggestions on how to stay strong and motivated without losing motivation.
I used to say, “I am too busy to exercise,” but I didn’t realize the effect of exercise on energy, concentration and productivity. You can’t create more time every day, but through clean eating and exercise, you can create more energy and mental focus. Today, I will say that I can’t help but exercise. I start with 90 minutes of hard hiking or mountain biking almost every day. -Ben Landers, Blue Corona
Start by changing what you do in the morning. What you do in the morning will translate into the rest of your day. This is especially true for entrepreneurs, because as a business leader, you want to perform at your best every day. Therefore, it is important to ensure that you start your day in the right way. Everyone has different personal habits to help them succeed, and you need to make sure these habits are right for you. Once you do this, you can build your morning routine around these habits. This might mean meditating and then exercising, or reading a book and drinking a cup of coffee. No matter what it is, make sure it is something you can do every day. In this way, you can be successful throughout the year. -John Hall, calendar
Treatment is a powerful way to help yourself, especially as an entrepreneur. In this position, not many people can talk to you about your difficulties or problems, so having a therapist you can talk to who is not in your business scope can reduce your burden. When a business has problems or rapid growth, leaders are often forced to “figure out” or “put a brave face.” This pressure will accumulate and affect your leadership in the business. When you can vent all these accumulated emotions, you will be happier and become a better leader. It can also prevent you from venting to partners or employees and causing company morale problems. Treatment can greatly help self-growth, which will directly affect business growth. -Kyle Clayton, RE/MAX Professionals team Clayton
I believe that healthy habits are essential to a successful career. The best habit I have developed is to sit down with my family and eat home-cooked food on a regular basis. Every night at 5:30, I turn off my laptop and go to the kitchen with my husband. We share our days and cook a healthy and delicious meal together. You need real food to provide energy and motivation for your body, and you need to spend meaningful time with your family to power your spirit. As entrepreneurs, it is difficult for us to separate ourselves from work, and it is even more difficult for us to set boundaries on working hours. Making time to make connections will make you full of energy and vitality, which will enable you to participate more successfully in your personal and professional life. ——Ashley Sharp, “Life with Dignity”
You cannot underestimate the importance of sleeping at least 8 hours a night. When you avoid social media and have uninterrupted sleep before going to bed, you can give your body and brain the rest that it needs to function properly. Just a few days or weeks of regular deep sleep can change your life and help you think and feel better. -Syed Balkhi, WPBeginner
As an entrepreneur, in order to live a healthier life, I made a simple and powerful change in my lifestyle, which is to practice mindfulness. For business leaders, one of the most important skills is the ability to think strategically and make decisions calmly and deliberately. Mindfulness helps me do this. Especially, when there is a stressful or difficult situation, mindfulness is very useful. -Andy Pandharikar, Commerce.AI
One recent change I made is to take a week off at the end of each quarter. I use this time to recharge and take care of myself so that I can deal with the next quarter more easily. It may not be possible in some cases, such as when we are behind on a time-sensitive project, but in most cases, I am able to implement this plan and encourage my team to take a break when they need it. -John Brackett, Smash Balloon LLC
Every day I must go outdoors to get my body active. I found that I did some of the best thinking, brainstorming, and troubleshooting in nature, with limited distractions. I found the silence refreshing and rejuvenating. On days when I need to be encouraged or inspired by a specific topic, I might listen to educational podcasts. Leaving this time for me away from my children and staff has really improved my working day. -Laila Lewis, inspired by PR
As an entrepreneur, I try to limit the screen time after get off work. This helped me in several ways. Now, not only do I have more concentration, but I can also sleep well. As a result, my stress and anxiety levels have dropped and I can focus on my work better. In addition, I can spend a lot of time doing things I really like, such as spending time with my family or learning new skills to improve efficiency. -Josh Kohlbach, wholesale suite
I learned to let others lead. For many years, I have been the de facto leader of almost any project we are working on, but this is just unsustainable. As a person, it is impossible for me to supervise every product and plan in our organization, especially as we scale up. Therefore, I have formed a leadership team around myself who can take some responsibility for our continued success. In our efforts to find the best configuration for the leadership team, I even changed my title many times. We often beautify the personal aspects of entrepreneurship. The fact is, if you insist that you must take full responsibility for the success of your business, you will only limit your success and exhaust yourself. You need a team. -Miles Jennings, Recruiter.com
